What is CERENE?

Centro de Recuperação Nova Esperança has been helping people be free from drugs and alcohol since 1989.

Based on Christian principles and funded through donations, the programme offers spiritual, academic and professional assistance thus equipping individuals to return to society as responsible adults.

With a solid established structure and qualified professionals, we help people from all over Brazil.

CERENE started its work on May 02nd, 1989 in the city of Blumenau, Santa Catarina with the help from Missão Evangélica União Cristã (Evangelical Christian Mission) a religious non-profit entity.

Members from this Mission decided that it was time to take action. They could no longer ignore the toll that drug and alcohol addiction was taking on their community, realizing that “talk” was not helping. It was time to use their actions to support them and their families. With their faith in the Word they started CERENE.

Beginning modestly, CERENE admitted its first patient living with the first collaborators family. A ranch became a room, kitchen, dining hall, meeting room, etc., until it became what it is today.

As time passed , there started to be constant increase in the number of requests for internment. With the support from MEUC, Blue Cross from Germany, Gnadauer Brasilien Mission, Hilfe für Brüder from Germany, City Hall of Blumenau, the State of Santa Catarina Government and from many people from our community, it was possible to improve on our humble beginning and reach to what CERENE is today.

Four rehab centers

Today CERENE has four rehab centers, three in the State of Santa Catarina; Blumenau, Palhoça, São Bento do Sul and one in the State of Paraná; Lapa. Together they help 131 people – 124 in the residential treatment programme and 14 in the Social Reinsertion Programme. CERENE counts on 56 professional members, all of whom are qualified to offer professional treatment to our patients and their families.
